Evaluate the hydro-geochemical characteristics of Selamko farm reservoir water quality and its potential for multipurpose uses in Debre Tabor, Ethiopia using GIS-based water quality indices

Abstract Surface water pollution is a global problem and has been evident for long period of time. Hence, the aim study was to evaluate hydro-geochemical characteristics Selamko farm reservoir quality its suitability multipurpose uses using GIS-based indices. The sampling sites parameters were selected systematically based on land use, cover, anthropogenic activities around watershed in Debre Tabor, Ethiopia. Water samples collected from 11 stations July 2019 March 2020 composite method examined standard procedures. reservoir's use investigated drinking irrigation indices, other tools. spatial distribution maps prepared kriging ArcGIS 10.5. results geospatial analysis indicated that had variation, which caused by industrial household wastewater inflow across watershed. Based WHO ES standards, computed index revealed 81.81% 18.18% fall into poor very classes, indicates not fit drinking. However, Wilcox diagram, USEPA regulations found be safe suitable irrigation, fishing, livestock purposes. concluded watering with proper management accordingly.
